5 Canadian Graves Registration Unit (1944-1945)
19 January 1945: 09.30hrs Major R.S Peabody along with Capts Day and Micklesom left with their driver and fingerprint Sgt for Roosendaal. In order to ascertain identify of some unknown Canadian soldiers who had been reported to them.
19 February 1945: 09.00hrs Lt W.E. Delaney departed for Groede Military Cemetery in order to locate and register grave of a soldier.
16.30:Lt W.E. Delaney returned from Groede Military Cemetery where he had gone to locate whereabouts of graves and register same. He supervised burial of a Canadian soldier at this location.
27 February 1945: 17.00hrs Lt Fortin reported back from area Hoofdplaat and Ijzendijke in connectio with registrations.
1 March 1945: 08.30hrs Lt Fortin will work in Hoofdplaat and Ijzendijke area.
2 March 1945: 08.30hrs Lt Fortin will work in Hoofdplaat and Ijzendijke area.
5 March 1945: 08.30hrs Lt Fortin will proceeded to Aardenberg area, for the purpose of graves registration.
17.00hrs Lt Fortin rerturned.
8 March 1945: 09.00hrs Lt W.E. Delaney proceeded to Biervliet area, where he will set up crosses on graves.
28 March 1945: 09.30hrs Lt W.E. Delaney accompanied by Units Cpl Clerck, left for Holland to carry out some registration work.
17.30: Lt W.E.Delaney and cpl clerck returned from Holland, on Cadzand. His work had taken him to Retranchement and also in the vicinity of Zuidzande.
2 Mayh1945: 16.30hrs Lt W.E. Delaney returned from Eede where he had attempted to identifiy bodies in a plane that has laid under water for some time. He reported that the plane is still partly submerged and in pieces so that for the time being it is impossible to tell whether it is British of American.
16 May 1945: 18.00hrs Lt A Fortin returned from Holland where on the 14th he carried out will work in holland, he had carried out work at St Jansteen.On 15th May he worked at Goes and Hoogerheide.
11 June 1945: 17.30hrs Lt Delaney returned from Cadzand he registered a number of Brit and German graves.
15 June 1945: Lt Delaney returned from Breskens where he registered a number of American and German graves.
22 June 1945: 08.30hrs Cpl photographer of unit and driver proceeded to Cemetery of Bergen op Zoom. He will take pictures of the cemetery for official purpose.
25 June 1945: 08.30hrs Lt Fortin will also left at this time for Cadzand.
26 June 1945: 15.00hrs Lt F Clavelle and his driver are getting crosses ready, and loading veh preparitory to going on Reg work to the area of North east Belguim and Southern Holland
4 July 1945: Lt W.E. Delaney carried out registration work in Axel he registered 19 graves in this area.
5 July 1945: Lt F Clavelle proceeded to Nijmegen for registration in that area.
6 July 1945: Lt F Clavelle returned from Nijmegen he was succesful in registering all the graves had burial returns for.
7 August 1945: Lt F Clavelle left for neighborhood of Isabelle and Ijzendijke on investigations. He returned and stated he could obtain no informtion on investigations even in view of the fact that a thorough search was made in the area.
8 August 1945: Lt F Clavelle left for Nispen on investigations.
5 September 1945: Lt F Clavelle and driver left for southern part of holland in area of Beveland peninsula on investigations.
7 September 1945: Lt F Clavelle returned from BRoosendaal and area, where he succesfully completed several investigations.
8 September 1945: cpl Q and driver left for Bergen op zoom Cdn Perm Mil Cem owhere he will photograph said cemetery.
10 September 1945: Lt F Clavelle left for A Sec 2 Cdn GCU, located at Roosendaal where he will spend the week on registrations and investigations in S/W area of Holland.
12 September 1945: Lt F Clavelle and driver left for registration work to Middelburg.
14 September 1945: Lt F Clavelle returned from are of southern holland south beveland peninsula and area around Bergen op Zoom.He completed 28 registrations and 18 investigations on missing personnel.
21 September 1945: Lt J. W. McGrath OIC 2 Sec 1 CGCU, located at Roosendaal called on OC for a discussion on registration and concentration.
24 September 1945: Lt F Clavelle and driver left for Bergen op Zoom where Lt Clavelle is investigating a report on unregistered graves.
26 September 1945: Lt F Clavelle and driver returned from Roosendaal where he worked on registration in Gilze, Rucphen,Breda, Stampersgat and Bergen op zoom.
24 September 1945: Lt F Clavelle and driver left for Bergen op Zoom where Lt Clavelle is investigating a report on unregistered graves.
1 October 1945: Lt F Clavelle and driver left for Roosendaal, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam on registrations and expects to be gone for three of four days.
18 October 1945: Lt E Schreiber returned from Liege, he also visisted Margraten American Cemetery where he was engaged in the correction of crosses.
23 October 1945: Lt E. Schreiber will return to Margraten American Cemetery where will make corrections again.
25 October 1945: Lt F Clavelle and driver along with Cpl photographer proceeded to Bergen op Zoom where Cpl will commence photographing five plots of permanent crosses which OC 3 CCU claimed would be ready as of today.
30 October 1945: Lt W E delaney returned from Bergen op Zoom with Cpl photographer. His trip was again unsuccesfull in regards to photograpinh of graves as only one plot of crosses had been erected thus affording no background for photographing of same.
Lt Delaney was informed that hus unit would be notified when corsses are ready. One registration was made at Bosschenhoofd.
15 November 1945: Unit was disbanded.
