A soldier stands in the snow, saluting at the graves of three soldiers from 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters). The graves, marked with temporary wooden crosses, are of, from left to right, Corporal Robert Weir Howe, Trooper Norman Taylor and Trooper George Newbigging Russell. The men were killed during an operation against German forces in the Wanssum area on 6-8 January 1945.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records the deaths of Robert Weir Howe (aged 28), Norman Taylor (aged 21) and George Newbigging Russell (aged 27), on 8 January 1945 and their burial at Venray War Cemetery.
