On 4 November 1944 the village was accidentally bombed by the Allies. 55 people died.
Many houses were destroyed.
Both the Catholic Church and the Ned. Reformed church were seriously affected and rebuilt after the war.
A bronze monument by the Brabant artist Léon Vermunt was erected in memory of this bombing.
It was unveiled on May 4, 1985.
We see a grieving family with a dead child. The woman mourns; the man seems to point the way to a new future.
